Mission Statement
The vision of the ETC International Group is
“sustainable development of people and environment, in a global context, based on local circumstances and local initiatives”.
This drives and motivates ETC staff. The mission of our organisation is to operate as a vibrant, innovative and information-sharing membership organisation which, through research, development activities and provision of advisory services, particularly in the fields of governance, natural resources management and public health, contributes to ecological sound, socially equitable, economically viable and culturally acceptable situations.
In pursuing ETC’s vision, the members subscribe a number of core values such as ethical entrepreneurship, with zero tolerance to corruption, full compliance to legal rules and regulations, respect for individual freedom and attention for sustainable use of natural resources. People should have the opportunity to achieve their full potential in an atmosphere that emphasises equity, democracy, diversity and reciprocity. Local needs, indigenous knowledge and diversity of cultural values are always essential for our field-based research, policy advice and other development activities which are therefore characterised by a true participatory approach. Collation and dissemination of understanding and knowledge is regarded as important to build sustainable futures.
