ETC International Group
The Netherlands based ETC Foundation, working in 75 different countries around the world, associates with 4 ETC offices which are strategically positioned in Africa, Asia and South America.
Currently the following four offices associate with the ETC Netherlands based office (in alphabetical order):
The associated offices operate under the name of ETC International Group, as a network of legally, financially and organisationally independent operating entities. The offices cooperate whenever possible in programmes, projects and consultancies.
A brief background to the International Group
In the 1980s, projects and programmes in the South were often managed by experts from the North. ETC was one of the first development organisations to foresee increased involvement by professionals from the South, and decided in the late 1980s to set up a truly international group by devolving its overseas activities to local offices. The objective was to create independent offices whose staff was mainly local and thus strongly rooted in their local institutional and cultural context.
In 2002, some ten to fifteen years after these offices had been established, it was decided that full ownership, management responsibility and financial management responsibility would be transferred to the respective local offices, and that work would take place on developing a network organisation.
In April 2005, this new form of collaboration was confirmed when the Netherlands-based units and the five independent ETC offices abroad signed a Membership Agreement. Collaboration within ETC International Group now focuses on joint proposals, projects, product development, learning and sharing of facilities.
ETC UK
ETC UK originated as part of ETC International at the end of the 1980s. With the move to separate offices, ETC UK became an independent entity while continuing to hold the core values and purpose of the wider ETC family.
At the end of 2008 the ETC UK office closed.
ETC will continue to collaborate with the former colleagues on an individual base, as they have valuable knowledge and extensive experience in a range of important ETC domains.
