Marga de Jong’s key expertise is in (creative) process guidance. She has specialized over the past 10 years supporting networking and building multi stakeholder partnerships, in various aspects of rural development. Inspiring, motivating and coaching of people are her strength. Her capacity to guide LEADER groups through an innovation process by using the U theory has been successful. She has experience both national and international in managing complex projects in the field of training and guidance of local initiative groups as well as setting up and projects and programmes, coaching people, budget and human resource management.

As ETC Consultant she managed a large international project in rural renewal in Sri Lanka(from 1991 – 2000). She guided the process of institutionalising the change from a top down to a bottom up approach in a large government set-up and the required adaptations in the managerial structure of the organisation. She has been involved in several evaluations and studies and is well acquainted with participatory monitoring and evaluation methods. She has been evaluating the LEADER programme in the Netherlands. Since 2007 she is the manager of the National Rural Network of the Netherlands and involved in several projects in rural development. She is also manager of the thematic cluster on Agriculture, Health and Nutrition within ETC. Before joining ETC Marga has been working as Advisor on Gender in projects in Somalia and Burkina Faso from 1982 – 1990 and in the Netherlands from 1978-1982. She graduated in 1982 as a Home Economist.
