ETC's products and services - in programs, projects and consultancies - can consist of, or any combination of:

  • Policy oriented studies and policy advice (scoping studies; impact analysis, system design/modelling, scenario development, policy formulation, design of norms and regulations)
  • Support to (participatory) formulation and implementation programmes and projects
  • Evaluation studies (policy impacts assessments, programme and project evaluations
  • Capacity building training, coaching, technical and management assistance
  • Guiding processes of technological and institutional innovation
  • Knowledge management: gathering, analysis and packaging of information for specific user categories (policy briefs, fact sheets, field manuals, guidelines, etcetera), facilitating exchange and dialogue (e.g. Magazines, E- conferences, exchange visits)
  • Facilitating network development and exchange and cooperation ( by organising exchange and study visits, support to working groups created by city networks, international workshops, etcetera)
  • Development of practical tools and instruments for various types of stakeholders

ETC working methods can be characterised by:

Important elements in the development processes are capacity building, negotiation with beneficiaries and an active recognition of the fact that women and men are to be considered equal partners. The sustainability of programmes and their impact on the environment receive special attention.

ETC has built up a reputation for developing and pioneering new concepts and approaches.

ETC has affiliations and working relations with governmental and non-governmental organisations, international and local consultancy firms, universities and other institutions. These networks represent a wealth of additional experiences and expertise that can be mobilised for study and research activities, product development and the acquisition of new projects.

ETC receives frequent requests for support at various stages in the project cycle. These range from identification to formulation, monitoring and evaluation, and policy formulation. We combine the methodological skills required for this type of consultancy with our thematic expertise and general affinity with the discipline.
